Honoring the Cupeno Tribe

Military veterans from the Cupeño Indian Tribe are honored for carrying forward a long cultural tradition of service, protection, and responsibility to their people. Even though the Cupeño are one of California’s smaller Native nations, their descendants have served in every major U.S. conflict of the 20th and 21st centuries. Their service is often seen as an extension of the tribe’s historic role as defenders of their homeland, especially in light of the 1903 forced removal from their ancestral village of Cupa. Today, Cupeño veterans are recognized not only for their military contributions but also for the way they embody the tribe’s resilience, cultural pride, and commitment to future generations. Tribal members who would like to be included on the veterans page are encouraged to send in their information (along with a picture) so it can be added to the website.
